Returning to Music After Having Kids

3 min read

Parent musician returning to play with a band in London

The guitar did not go anywhere. Neither did the drum kit, or the keyboard, or the amp gathering dust in the corner. Life just got fuller, and music quietly moved down the list.

Why it is harder to get back to now

Before kids, finding a band meant scrolling classifieds or asking around. Now it means doing that with far less time and far less patience for bands that fall apart after two rehearsals. Any time you spend on music has to actually lead somewhere.

What makes it work again

A fixed, predictable schedule you can plan childcare around. A band that will not collapse the moment life gets busy, because everyone else is just as committed as you are. And zero time spent on logistics you cannot spare.

How BetheBand fits around a full life

You are matched into a full band of 4 or 5 musicians, at your level, with a professional band director for 12 weekly 2-hour rehearsals at a set time in Central London. That is one predictable slot a week, not an open-ended commitment that eats into evenings unpredictably.

We ask for attendance at least 9 of the 12 sessions. Life happens. If you need to miss one, you let your band director know and the band carries on.

What you get back

A dedicated 2 hours a week that belongs entirely to you, and a full live show at an iconic London venue at the end of the term, with your kids and partner in the crowd if you want them there. Plenty of our members roll straight into the next term once the first one is done.
