What does a band director do?

Lead weekly rehearsals

12 weekly 2-hour rehearsals at a professional practice studio in Central London. You stay with the same band for the full term.

Build the setlist

Each member suggests 5 songs. You pick the setlist, aim to include at least one song per person, and assign parts to each player.

Help them improve

You take ideas from the band and guide their playing across the term. When a member feels they helped shape a song, that is a highlight for everyone.

Record a rough take

At the end of every session you record a rough audio take and upload it to a shared drive, so members can practise at home.

Run Meet & Greets

Before the term starts, you meet new musicians 1-to-1. It is relaxed and friendly, and helps us match each person into the right band.

Lead the live show

Your band plays one gig at an iconic London venue. Family and friends come along. We book the venue and the sound engineer.

What level do you need to be?

You are a professional gigging musician. You can hold a band together, hear what each player needs, and explain it in plain English. Our members are casual musicians, so patience matters as much as playing.

You play or perform professionally
You are confident leading a group of 4 or 5 people
You are warm, encouraging and organised
You are happy to make a nervous beginner feel welcome

Is it regular work?

Yes. Terms run back to back and most bands roll over, so you get consistent, paid work. Rehearsals are weekday evenings, so they rarely conflict with weekend gigs.
